Topics
The challenges of health informatics, including those of trustable Artificial Intelligence, may be instantiated in specific ways due to regional or language-related idiosyncrasies. Specific issues may come from the specific data, workflows and organisational processes found in some countries. They may also arise due to the involved languages and pertain to Natural Language Processing (NLP). The mission of the Francophone SIG of IMIA, which supports this workshop, is to foster collaboration on health informatics in a region- and language-related context, namely that of French-speaking countries.
This workshop therefore aims to organize a description and discussion of the challenges of health informatics in French-speaking countries, with an emphasis on trustable Artificial Intelligence (AI). Within this context, prominent topics for this workshop include, non-exhaustively:
- Challenges of trustable AI such as:
- NLP-empowered clinical decision support systems
- NLP methods and tools
- Clinical evaluation of NLP tools
- Explainable language models and classification models
- Health data science, big data, healthcare analytics
- Symbolic and Semantic Reasoning
- Predictive Modeling and Risk Prediction grounded in such languages and data.
- More general Health Informatics challenges that involve languages in use in French-speaking countries or datasets collected or relevant in French-speaking countries:
- Citizen health informatics: social media, etc.
- Decision support: clinical practice guidelines representation, etc.
- Education: serious games, etc.
- Health information systems: clinical information systems
- Human Factors: human-computer interfaces
- Knowledge and Information representation and modeling
- Natural Language Processing
- Patient records
- Public Health and Epidemiology Informatics: approaches for pandemic surveillance, etc.
- Security and Safety: text de-identification, etc.
- Societal aspects: legal, ethical, and regulatory issues; privacy and consent management
Context
This workshop is framed in the context of a larger series of face-to-face events organized by the Francophone SIG of IMIA, such as the JFIM conferences, and special sessions organized during MEDINFO conferences such as the Francophone pre-symposium at MEDINFO 2013 and TALMED 2019 at MEDINFO 2019. The MIE conference taking place in France in 2022 is a unique opportunity to gather the Francophone SIG's community and explore together how this year's MIE theme is instantiated in specific flavors in Francophone countries.
